A classic strawberry shortcake recipe that layers tender, buttery biscuits with sweet, macerated strawberries and fluffy whipped cream.

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 cups strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • Whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Mix the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the heavy cream until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat into a uniform 1-inch thick round.
  6. Cut the dough into rounds using a biscuit cutter or a glass.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Combine hulled strawberries with powdered sugar, letting sit for 15 minutes.
  9. Cool the shortcakes and slice them in half horizontally.
  10. Layer the shortcake with strawberries and top with whipped cream; serve immediately.
