A rich and moist German Chocolate Cake with chocolate frosting, sweetened coconut, and crunchy pecans, perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans to ensure a smooth release.
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Whisk them together until blended perfectly.
  3. Add the softened butter, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then carefully remove them to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat together the coconut, pecans, sugar, evaporated milk, egg yolks, and butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until thickened, about 10 minutes.
  9. Spread the frosting generously between the layers and over the top of the cake.
  10. Slice it up, serve it on plates, and enjoy every rich bite!
